Software updates
How a new School ERP release reaches your school, and how the administrator checks, validates and installs it without touching school data.
JPRAXC publishes new releases of School ERP for each edition. Your ERP checks for them on its own and tells the administrator when one is ready. Installing a release replaces only the application files that changed. Your records, settings, uploads and database are not touched, and a recovery copy of the replaced files is kept.
Before you start#
- Only the administrator can check for, validate and install a release. Other users do not see these controls.
- Take a backup first (Backup › Back up now). See Backup and session archives.
- Choose a quiet time. The ERP pauses for a few seconds while files are swapped in, and the page reloads.
- The computer or server needs an internet connection to fetch the release.
How you know a release is ready#
- An Update available button appears at the top of the sidebar, with the release number.
- When the administrator signs in, a notice opens once a day: Release … is ready. It shows the installed release, the edition, the publish date, the package size and the release notes.
Install from the notice#
- Read the release notes.
- Tick the box to confirm you have read and accept the JPRAXC Privacy Policy, Mobile App Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, Refund & Cancellation Policy, Legal and Grievances pages. Each opens in a new tab.
- Select Install now.
- Keep the page open. The ERP fetches the package, checks every file, installs it and reloads on the new release.
Select Later to close the notice, Check again to ask for the newest release, or Open Software update for the full page.
Install from Software update, step by step#
- Open School Settings › Software update. The top shows the installed release and when the ERP last checked.
- Check for update: select Check now. If a release is published for your edition, its card shows the release notes.
- Validate the package: select Validate package. The ERP downloads the package and checks it without changing anything. This can take a minute. Read the result: Validated with a list of passed checks, or Validation failed with the reason.
- Install: when the package is validated, select Install update.
- Tick the box to accept the JPRAXC policies and select Install now.
- Keep the page open until it reloads.
- Sign in again if asked, and check the modules your school uses most.
The history at the bottom shows the Installed release, Last checked, Last installed and Last result. Every check, validation and installation is also written to the Audit Log.
Offline edition#
Updates install from inside the ERP in the same way. You can also run a newer Windows installer over the existing installation; your school data is kept. See Install the Offline edition on Windows.
Good to know#
- An update never changes school records, settings or uploads.
- Some releases need an earlier release installed first. The card then says This update needs release … or newer already installed. Install the earlier release first when it is offered.
- If a validation report says it was made for an earlier package, select Validate again before installing.
Troubleshooting#
| Symptom | What to do |
|---|---|
| The last check did not reach… | Check the internet connection and select Check for update again. |
| Validation failed | Do not install. Note the message and contact JPRAXC support. |
| The installation stops with a message | The ERP puts back anything it changed. Open Software update for the full report and contact JPRAXC support. |
| The page says an earlier installation was interrupted and needs recovery | Do not retry. Contact JPRAXC support. |
| The page shows a verification key problem | Do not change anything. Contact JPRAXC support. |
| Install update stays greyed out | Validate the package first. If the card asks for an earlier release, install that one first. |
| A non-administrator sees Only the school administrator can… | Ask the administrator to open Software update. |
