App PIN, fingerprint and signing out
How the 4-digit App PIN, fingerprint or face unlock and the two kinds of sign-out work in JPX Parent and JPX Staff.
JPX Parent and JPX Staff keep your account on the phone behind a 4-digit App PIN. You can add fingerprint or face unlock. Signing out does not remove your account; it locks the app. Removing the account from the phone is a separate, deliberate step. This guide explains both.
Before you start#
For the office app, use App security, PIN and signing out of JPX School ERP. The steps below apply to Parent and Staff.
- You have signed in once. See Install JPX Parent and sign in or Sign in to JPX Staff.
- For fingerprint or face unlock, set it up in your phone's own settings first.
Set the App PIN#
The app asks for the PIN straight after your first sign-in. It cannot be skipped.
- On Set your App PIN, enter four digits.
- Enter the same four digits again to confirm.
- When asked Unlock with fingerprint?, tap Use fingerprint and scan, or tap Not now.
Open the app#
When the app is locked, you have three ways in:
- Enter your 4-digit App PIN.
- Tap Use biometric unlock, if you turned on fingerprint or face.
- Tap Sign in with credentials and sign in with your school details. Parents use the admission number, date of birth and father's mobile. Staff use the employee number and password.
Change or reset the PIN#
- Tap More.
- Tap App security.
- Choose one:
- Change PIN — enter the current PIN, then the new one twice.
- Reset PIN — forget the PIN in use and set a new one now. You stay signed in.
- To turn fingerprint or face on or off, use the Biometric login switch on the same screen.
- To lock the app straight away, tap Lock now.
Sign out (lock the app)#
- Tap the sign-out button in the header, or go to More › Sign out.
- Read the Sign out? sheet and tap Yes, sign out.
What happens:
- Your live session on this phone is closed.
- Your account stays on the phone, locked with your PIN.
- It opens again with your PIN or fingerprint.
- School notifications keep arriving.
To stop the Sign out? question appearing, tick Don't ask me again on the sheet. Turn the question back on under More › App security › Ask before signing out.
Remove the account from the phone#
Use this when you are giving away the phone, or it is not your account.
- Go to More › Sign out.
- Under Leaving this phone for good?, tap Remove this account from the phone.
- Confirm Remove.
The saved session on this phone is ended. The next sign-in needs your school details again. The school stays verified on the phone. If other children or accounts are signed in, only this one is removed.
Good to know#
- The App PIN only protects this phone. It does not change anything at the school.
- If you forget the PIN, tap Sign in with credentials on the lock screen, sign in with your school details, then set a new PIN.
- After several wrong PIN attempts, the app signs that account out of the phone. Sign in again with your school details and set a new PIN.
- The app locks again when you come back to it after it has been in the background for a while. Briefly switching to pick a photo or file does not lock it.
- Pressing the phone's back button on Home asks Leave the app?. Choose Stay, Sign out or Close app. Close app keeps you signed in.
Troubleshooting#
| Symptom | What to do |
|---|---|
| Biometric login says Not available on this device | Set up fingerprint or face unlock in your phone's settings, then return to More › App security. |
| "Biometric unlock was not confirmed." | The scan was cancelled or failed. Try the switch again. Your PIN still works. |
| "Too many wrong PINs. Sign in again with your school credentials." | The account was signed out of the phone. Sign in with your school details, then set a new PIN. |
| Someone else's account is on the phone | Use Remove this account from the phone. |
